1857 Braided Hair Small Date variety large cent! 1857 was the last year for the Large Cent and only about 335,000 were minted. Of those, half were never circulated and melted down. The small date variety is the less common of the two major varieties, and Bowers estimates that only 3,000 to 6,000 have survived in any condition.
This specimen is a well preserved circulated example with a sharp strike!
